Value of integrating perennial forage seed crops in annual cropping sequences

چکیده
Cropping sequences integrating perennial forages and annual crops can generate multidimensional agroeconomic environmental benefits. A 4-yr cropping sequence study was conducted from 2013 to 2016 evaluate the relative merits of various sequences. Three forage seed (creeping red fescue [Festuca rubra L.], alsike clover [Trifolium hybridum pratense L.]) four food (wheat [Triticum aestivum canola [Brassica napus barley [Hordeum vulgare pea [Pisum sativum were used eight different treatments, which split into three levels nitrogen (N): 0, 45, 90 kg ha−1. The yields expressed as equivalent yield (CEY) summed for Economic benefits calculated using input–output price scenarios individual years. highest CEY, gross return, margin over partial variable costs obtained creeping fescue-based sequences, irrespective N application rates. Based on CEY margins, merit order is ranked > high diversity crop ≈ clover-based wheat–canola alternating continuous sequence. had positive effects performance succeeding wheat canola. متن کاملEffects of Mix Cropping of Alfalfa and Annual Ryegrass on Forage Production
Mix cropping of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) and annual ryegrass (Lolium rigidum) may improve forage production in the rangeland and field conditions, especially in spring after the establishment year. In this study, the effects of different sowing rates of alfalfa and annual ryegrass seeds in the replacement and additive series of mix cropping were evaluated on forage yield in first year after th...
متن کاملAnnual and Perennial Forage Clovers for Arkansas - FSA3137
Clovers and other legumes are highly desirable species in pastures and hay meadows. First, legumes are able to obtain nitrogen from air through their symbiotic relationship with Rhizobium bacteria and, there fore, are not dependent on nitrogen fertilizer. The fixed nitrogen is primarily used to support clover growth, but parts of it become avail able to neighboring grass plants when clover ti...
متن کاملInfluence of drought stress on nutritive value of perennial forage legumes
In the next decades, forage legumes are likely to become more important. However, predicted climate change may increase the risk of droughts and thus influence their agricultural performance. Decreases in yield due to water shortage are well documented, while influences on nutritive values are inconsistent. Therefore, we examined the effects of drought on crude protein (CP), neutral deterge...

However, root biomass ...
